On the road Radicofani – Celle sul
rigo inside the Val d’Orcia park there is the farmhouse
Pozzuolo, passing
vineyard, olive trees, and lush green wood. Customers are invited to taste the
typical products of the farm and to live in contact with nature and animals .
The accommodation for guests in a comfortable and well equipped apartment is
between.
Pozzuolo farmhouse has got 2 double
rooms, 2 bathrooms, a living room, a kitchen and a veranda.

Pozzuolo, bought in 1956 by Massimiliano del Grasso and Celsina Meloni, was a part of the count Ademaro’s 10 farms complex. The count, from Castelvecchio, administrated his properties by the help of some keepers that made their reports to the factor. Every Sunday morning the “family man” of every farm went to the factor’s house (“Villa Medicea” in Radicofani), and, in a special room, called “scrittoio” (writing desk) they made counts about the peasants’ profits (concerning lambs, cows, products selling …).
There are a lot of anecdote about relationship between the factor and peasants: every 15 days there was “divisione del formaggio” (division of cheese): the half part was given to the factor , and the same was for “trebbiatura” (threshing): in this case the half part of the harvest was retired and changed with seeds for the next season. This procedure was also followed for “tosatura” (sheep shearing).
Podere Pozzuolo has ever been an important reference because in the past people organized there the “festival of the 1st May” (in the garden there were some accordion players and people can dance, drink and talk together), and also because the well furnished water to all the families that lived near the farm: women generally arrived to the well with big jugs made of copper, to wash the clothes, while men arrived with carts to fill big demijohn to have a big water supply.
Very important in this zone was also the church “Madonna delle Vigne”; a church where families went to mass, celebrated by the priest that came from Radicofani. The church is called “Madonna delle Vigne” because a legend tells that Virgin Mary appeared to a peasant in a vineyard.
During the ‘50s – ‘60s people organized “Sagra della Madonna delle Vigne”, a mundane occasion that needed a lot of work to be prepared. Some volunteers organised games (“corse dei sacchi” – races with sacks; “pentolaccia” – old saucepan) and banquets for everyone. Some people went house by house to collect products (eggs, wine, cheese, …) for the “sagra”.
And, as there was no time for amusements, people organized
“gioco della ruzzola”: two teams tried to make a disc of olive wood roll as long
as possible. This game is still practiced in Celle sul Rigo (a village near
Radicofani), but they do not use a woody disc, but a cheese.
The farm has been completely restructured by the owners and at the first floor they realised a comfortable farmhouse where guests can regenerate themselves in contact with nature and taste products realised following the ancient traditions (wine, oil, marmalade, and other).
